It’s not May yet, but Mother’s Day is going to be here before you know it. Thank your mother, wife, daughter, sister, etc. for all that she does with a piece of David Yurman this Mother’s Day.  Whether she is looking for an everyday pendant or more of a bold, statement piece – we have the perfect gift to make her feel special, just as she deserves. To help you choose which piece is best for her, we’ve compiled pictures of the collections that are most popular among mothers at our store- all of which we’ll have fully stocked during our David Yurman Trunk Show this Thursday, Friday and Saturday! Here are a few of our favorite, top sellers:

Our David Yurman Trunk show is right around the corner, so we thought we would share some of our favorite colored gemstone pieces with you. We love these pieces because they embody the iconic cable look with an added flair. Even if you don’t wear a lot of color in your wardrobe, these gemstones are just enough to brighten your look without being too flashy. David Yurman is the perfect gift for Graduation and Mother’s Day, so give her one of these gems…

What’s an Ear Cuff?

We’ve all heard of earrings and cuffs, but what in the world is an ear cuff? An ear cuff is best described as an earring that travels up or down the curve of the ear, and one thing is for sure… it’s a trend. It’s clear that the ear cuff trend is here to stay –  we’re seeing ear cuffs all over the red carpet this year on celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, Sienna Miller, Demi Lovato, Vanessa Hudgens, Victoria Justice, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Connelly. Ear cuffs have been featured in magazines like Lucky, Glamour, Vogue and Cosmopolitan.

EarCuffCollage

It wasn’t long ago that we saw ear cuffs popping up on the runway and it’s clear that they are much more than a fad. “What’s the difference between a fad and a trend though?” you say.  Trends take a long time to burn out and they impact several different industries, whereas fads are here today and gone tomorrow and typically only affect a single industry. Clients have been coming into G. Thrapp Jewelers asking if we can show them a few styles for galas, black tie events and other occasions. Ear cuffs encompass many of this year’s jewelry trends: bigger and bolder looks, more colorful and exotic color combinations, as well as vintage and geometric looks.

Ear cuffs come in all shapes and sizes depending on what kind of look you are going for, they can be dainty or statement pieces. The best part is, they don’t all require pierced ears and they’re the perfect way to spice up your outfit for an upcoming cocktail party. Here are a few of the  most popular looks…

Since G. Thrapp Jewelers is always on the cusp (or cuff haha) of new trends, we HAD TO purchase at least one pair of ear cuffs during the Smart Show in Chicago. The pair we purchased were designed by Meira T, one of the designers we already feature at G. Thrapp Jewelers, and we are in LOVE with them. Take a look at our new ear cuffs Dana is modeling below:

Nina Nguyen’s Golden Beginning & Bright Future

One of our favorite parts about the Smart Show this weekend was talking with Nina Nguyen and ordering pieces of her newest jewelry. Nina’s world travels and life experiences inspire her creation of intricate, colorful, and artistic jewelry. Read below for more information on a truly inspiring designer, and check out some of the incredible pieces you can find at G. Thrapp Jewelers, just in time for Spring and Summer!Nina Nguyen Jewelry | Jewelry Stores IndianapolisNina used to help her mother trade gold in her hometown of Pleiku, Vietnam. On Sunday, her mother would set up her little table, and workers from the nearby river who’d panned for gold would line up to sell my mother their gold. Nina’s uncle used to make the beautiful sparkly gold dust into rings. As a girl growing up in war-torn Vietnam, Nina loved to help him with this process in his jewelry casting foundry. It was her job to bike to the market to deliver the gold. The gold rings were fastened on a chain for her to easily disguise under her clothes. This was to evade the communists’ eyes and ears on her parents. Being able to work closely with her family is a major part of her designing process.

After relocating to the United States, Nina continued to design jewelry as a hobby, using stones that are unique, mineral and fossilized, and can’t traditionally be found in jewelry stores. Lately, she’s incorporated stones such as druzy and geodes in her pieces. Now, she has a very successful line of jewelry that has been featured in magazines and jewelry stores all over the world. Not to mention, her jewelry has debuted on famous artists such as Miranda Lambert! Each of her pieces is designed in her Colorado studio and then handcrafted by artisans in Nina Nguyen Designs’ very own Women’s Co-Operative. The women employed at the Co-Op are given professional training, higher-than-average wages, full benefits, as well as education for their children. Nina holds the same high standards for their work conditions as she does for the beauty and quality of her products. Nina remarks,”I think all products should be made in a manner that benefits everyone involved. People should always be concerned with where the things they purchase come from, who made them, where the materials are from, and what will become of it when its life is over.”

Martin Flyer’s Bridal Party Preview

Since you’ll be browsing the largest selection of Martin Flyer inventory we’ll have in store this year at our Bridal Party on April 19th, we thought you might like to know some information about the brand, and of course, view some photos of their incredible engagement rings.

Martin Flyer opened its doors more than 65 years ago and is one of the most recognizable names in the jewelry industry today. Now based in a 10,000 square foot facility in Manhattan’s diamond district, the family business continues to carry out the Flyer tradition of providing customers with the highest quality products, competitive prices, and first class service.

Martin Flyer’s FlyerFit line was created in 2006. FlyerFit rings seek to eliminate “the dreaded gap” that exists between the engagement ring and the wedding band so the two rings fit together perfectly.

Martin Flyer engagement rings are broken down by five categories: Three Stone, Solitaire, Shared Prong, Micro Pave and Channel in order to simplify the buying process. Pick your favorite! There are images of all five categories below.

What’s Hot Now…

From now until our bridal party on April 19th, we are kicking engagement posts into high gear. We are obsessed with everything that is diamond and sparkly, and of course, trendy! G. Thrapp has a variety of colored diamonds, double halo settings, mixed metals, floral detailed, twisted bands and East-West setting engagement rings, all of which were named as The Knot’s “2014 Engagement Ring Trends”. We’ve compiled pictures of rings at G. Thrapp Jewelers that match the trends predicted by The Knot. Which trend do you like the best?

Colorful Diamonds are great for a woman that is really looking to make a unique statement with her engagement ring. G. Thrapp has sold several yellow diamonds and a few pink and blue.

ColorDiamondCollage

Double Halo engagement settings are popular because they add a significant amount of sparkle and they make the diamond look even larger.

DoubleHaloCollage

Mixed-Metals are really trendy in the jewelry industry so it is no surprise that people are starting to purchase mixed-metal engagement rings. These Beverley K Collection bands come together to make a flawless stacked look. We love these rings because by combining two metals (namely gold and silver) you never have to worry about your ring matching your other jewelry!

BeverleyKBandsCollage

Twisted Bands are a nice way to add a touch of whimsical femininity to an engagement ring, and the soft lines are a great added detail.

TwistedCollage

Floral Detailed engagement rings are perfect for the woman that wants to throw the traditional setting to the wind. They are very romantic and typically add a touch of femininity to a vintage style ring. As you can see, they are also VERY unique.

FloralCollage

East-West Settings actually make the diamond appear larger – this is becoming popular for marquise, ovals and emeralds cut diamonds. G. Thrapp Jewelers has custom designed several east-west rings, including the ring pictured below.

We LOVE These Jewelry Storage Ideas!

Sure, jewelry boxes are okay, but how about something that can brighten up your room or make for more unique jewelry storage. We went next door to Be the Boutique, and gathered any type of stand, bowl or tray we could find. We had so much fun experimenting with these brightly colored pieces. We made sure to list what we used in the making of the jewelry storage display as well as the designer jewelry photographed underneath each image. As you can see, things like mirrors, cake platters, coffee cups, measuring cups and even candle holders can make for surprisingly great jewelry holders! (This could also be a wonderful gift idea!)

Of course, after you visit Be the Boutique at 56th & Illinois for your jewelry storage purchase, be sure to stop G. Thrapp Jewelers and buy some jewelry to fill that storage!
